Welcome Mrs. Dubbs!

Check your grades-they are up to date!

You have an email assignment-please check your email.

We are going to attempt video editing again! Those of you who had trouble with the software will be getting new accounts, just for these projects. I will give those to you tomorrow when I get back.
Our project will be similar, but not the same as the one we started at the beginning of the school year.
It will still be a vacation theme but this time you will pick ONE place in the world and collect 5 – 10 pictures that represent that place. For example, I may choose to go to London. I will go to the internet and find 5 -10 pictures of places I would see or visit in London like Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, West Minister Abbey, London Buses, Big Ben, and so on.
Make a new folder and name it the name of the place you will be “visiting”. For my example I would make a folder called “London”. Search for images about that location and save them in your new folder.

Class Motto Assignment 2010

Wednesday, May 5: You will each do some research in the computer lab, looking for a quote from a famous person (living or dead) that would be an appropriate 8th grade class motto.
Last year’s quote was:”Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is courage to continue that counts.” by Winston Churchill. In 2008 the quote was: “We all have out time machines. Some take us back, they’re called memories. Some take us forward, they’re called dreams!” Jeremy Irons

You can look up topics such as:
            Future
            Goals
            Moving forward in life
            Growing
            Expectations
            Memories
            Learning
            Education
            New beginnings
            Life
            Friends
            Change

When you find your quote print it out and turn it in to me for 10 points-make sure your name is on the page you print out. The next steps:

  • The Core teachers and I will pick the best of the quotes your find.
  • We will give you that list tomorrow (Thursday)
  • You will pick a quote from the list. You will write a five paragraph essay about the meaning and significance of this quote in relationship to your years at Hart-Ransom and/or graduation.
  • Your essay will begin with the quote and the person who said it.
  • You will have time during computer class next Wed and Thurs to work on your essays.

A private vote will determine the winner of the contest.  The winner will read his/her essay at graduation.

This will be a Language Arts grade for each of you.  Your rough drafts are due Friday, May 21. Turn them in to your Core teachers.

2008-2009

May 6, 2008

Class Motto assignment:
You will each do some research in the computer lab, looking for a quote from a famous person (living or dead) that would be an appropriate 8th grade class motto.

2007’s quote was: “We all have out time machines. Some take us back, they’re called memories. Some take us forward, they’re called dreams!” Jeremy Irons

Last years quote was: “You have brains in your head, You have feet in your shoes, You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own, you know what you know, You are the guy who will decide where to go.” Dr. Suess

You can look up topics such as:
Future
Goals

Growing
Expectations
Memories
Learning
Education
New beginnings
Life
Friends
Change

When you find your quote copy and paste it on Word, print it out and turn it in to me for 10 points-make sure your name is on the page you print out.

The next steps:
