He was the “Grand Master of the Black Masonic Lodge of Philadelphia.” He was a man born a slave and thought to throw his life away in the plantation fields. He put his life in order to be the best. He was the first black priest and pastor. He also made the first black church. His name was Absalom Jones.

Jones thought about what he was going to do as a free man. He decided on begin a preacher. Reaching his goal, he became a lay preacher at St. George’s Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia . Jones met a man named Richard Allen, an ordained deacon. Allen helped Jones with his dream because Allen liked Jones` ideas and decided to help Jones. Allen knew Benjamin Rush, and Robert Ralston, two white constructionist. The church was done on the date of July 25; 1791.
